Your Dsposal is a directory of all the licensed waste companies in the county. It has been built to help everybody understand rubbish, recycling, trash, junk, waste. Call it what you will, it is something that every single one of us deals with, yet few of us understand. Ready to get started?

In this article, you'll learn how to start using Your Dsposal to find different organisations, companies or services to help with your rubbish.

Before you start

Before you jump into the tasks ahead, here are a few helpful things to know:

  • Your Dsposal is for everyday members of the public and is completely free for them to use
  • Organisations, companies, charities should head to over Dsposal for more tailored information
  • Your Dsposal is a web-based application that works in most web browsers, which means you don't need to download or install any software on your computer. To be sure Dsposal works properly your web browser needs to meet our requirements

Task roadmap

Here's an overview of the tasks we'll cover in this article.

  • Searching the directory
  • Checking out the results
  • Filtering the search to find recycling centres
  • Looking at site profiles

Searching the directory

Your Dsposal's directory works like most other search web sites. The item you have to put in is a location. You can also include a waste related keyword to help you get more improved information.

By adding a location in the Your Dsposal directory you are asking us to search for information near that point.  There are a couple of things to mention about location search:

  1. The more specific the location the more accurate the results will be.  For example searching for Baker Street, London will give better answers than just London
  2. You can search for postcodes, streets, towns, cities, counties and even countries. But remember point 1
  3. There has to be a location for us to give you any results

The keyword helps us to give you more accurate suggestions for the profiles you should look at some more. You don't have to include a keyword but it can be helpful.

We have tried to make the keyword section easy to understand but there are a few things to think about:

  1. The keyword can be pretty much anything:
    • A type of rubbish. For example mattress or glass bottles or brick rubble
    • A company name or recycling centre name. For example Biffa or Every Street Recycling Centre or Environment Services Chesterfield
    • A service that you might need.  So you might want Confidential Waste Disposal or maybe Confidential Waste Disposal or even Free Transport
    • An EWC Code (if you looking up this then head over to Dsposal for more functionality)
  2. You don't need to include a keyword

You can find the directory search on the Your Dsposal homepage, or on our directory page, on any site profile page or on the directory results page.

Checking out the results

When you press search you will be taken to the directory results page. Once we have found something you should see a list of site profile "cards". These cards will show you:

  • the logo
  • the site name
  • the distance
  • the address

You then have the option to get directions to the location or you can more information by looking at the site profile.

If we could not find anything we'll suggest some things to improve your results.

Filtering the search

Once you are checking out the results you can used our Advanced Search to filter the results down.  You can filter by:

  • Site Types - to limited to the recycling centres then just toggle the switch for Recycling Centres (HWRC)
  • Licence Types - this is a lot more advanced and is mainly for people looking for a specific type of waste company
  • the distance - you can limit the distance in miles to a minimum of 1 mile and a maximum of 300.

Pressing Apply Filters refreshes the search with the details.

Looking at site profiles

The site profiles on Your Dsposal show you a brief overview about the profile you have clicked on. The information only shows when we have that data in Your Dsposal but the information we will so is:

  • the logo
  • the site name
  • whether the site is licensed by the government
  • the address
  • the phone number
  • the website

You'll be able to go to their website, get directions to their facility or give them a phone call.

Then there is some information about their business.  After this we show you the products and services that this site offers and finally all this information displayed on a map.

There is also some more legal information about this site.  This is a table of all the government licences and permits for that site.  This is just for information - as a member of the public you don't need to worry too much about it.  We only show licensed waste sites to you but some people might be interested.

Where is my company's profile?

To get onto Your Dsposal you'll need to create a free account on Dsposal and then you'll "Claim Your Profile". The "How to Claim My Business on Dsposal" article is the best place to start.
