Site Info
Mercury Recycling opened the UK's first Lamp Recycling Facility in 1996. What was then 'State of the Art' equipment was imported from Europe and the first customers began sending in their tubes and discharge lamps for recycling. The majority of these new customers were aware of the toxic effects of mercury, found in fluorescent tubes and most discharge lamps, and wanted the most environmentally friendly method of disposal.
Waste Operations
Waste operations require an environmental permit if the business uses, recycles, treats, stores or disposes of waste or mining waste. The permit can be for activities at one site or for mobile plant used at many sites.
Waste Carrier, Broker, Dealer - Upper Tier
People or businesses who transport, buy, sell or dispose of waste, or arrange for someone else to do so, must be registered as waste carriers, brokers or dealers.
Waste Installation
An environmental permit is required if an industrial installation uses facilities which carry out processes such as refineries, food and drink factories or intensive farming activities (e.g. large-scale chicken farms).
